Definition

A thyroid nodule is a growth (lump) in the thyroid gland. The thyroid gland is located at the base of the neck.


Symptoms

Most thyroid nodules produce no symptoms.

Large nodules can press against other structures in the neck. Symptoms may include:

Nodules that produce thyroid hormones will cause symptoms of hyperthyroidism , including:

What is a hypoechoic solid thyroid nodule?
I just found out I have a single hypoechoic solid nodule my ultrasound report says...

In general terms it means it reflects less ultrasound then surrounding tissue. Such nodules have 20 % risk of being malignant compared to 5 % risk for hyperechoic nodules
