Levothyroxine, also known as L-thyroxine, synthetic T4 or 3,5,3',5'-tetraiodo-L-thyronine, is a synthetic form of thyroxine . The natural hormone is chemically in the L-form, as is the pharmaceutical agent. Dextrothyroxine briefly saw research as an anticholesterol agent but was pulled due to cardiac side-effects. I diet and exercise and all I do is gain weight, I got blood work...

Well... my thyroid function was nearly non-existant so diet and exercise didn't help. Taking synthyroid combined with diet/exercise, I lost 100 lbs. No lie.
