Neisseria gonorrhoeae is a species of Gram-negative bacteria responsible for the sexually transmitted disease gonorrhoea. Neisseria are fastidious cocci, requiring nutrient supplementation to grow in laboratory cultures. Specifically, they grow on Chocolate agar with carbon dioxide.
