An indirect ophthalmoscope is an instrument designed to view the retina of the eye. It consists of a head-mounted lightsource, and a powerful lens held in the hand. The patient is positioned so that the patient's eye, the lens and the observer's eye are in a straight line. The instrument is used to diagnose various retinal pathologies like retinal detachment etc, and also to treat them.
